Each of us over our lives can anticipate that we will experience Life's seasons - that there will be times of happiness and contentment ,that there will be times of pain and challenge and that there will be the times in between.  Often, the times of pain and challenge arise from a loss, a change or an anticipated loss or change.   This may relate to the death of a loved one, illness, the ending of a relationship, pregnancy loss, the loss of a dream, job security, career change, disability, ageing or a traumatic experience. The COVID-19 situation we are facing has been a sudden change in our lives.  At this time, our world as we have known it may feel shaken and we may be wishing for the past and unsettled and uncertain about the future.

We may be deeply yearning and grieving for who or what has been lost. Feelings of fear and anxiety may be ever present or feelings of anger or guilt may be consuming us. Our energy may be low and we may have difficulty sleeping or concentrating.   Our relationships and/or our work performance may be affected. We may be experiencing a dilemma or feel that life has lost security, clarity, joy and purpose.

Each of us can expect to live  meaningful lives and not just survive and get through each day.   Living lives by just getting by can affect our health, our relationships and our overall sense of wellbeing.   Acknowledging that we need additional support displays self awareness, self-compassion and a willingness to try something different in our quest to feel connected and purposeful  in our lives.

My approach is to firstly establish trust and confidence with the people I meet and then to companion them as they connect with their thoughts, feelings and behaviours to understand what they are experiencing at this time of loss and change and to explore pathways, strategies and techniques which will empower them to restore their lives and live with purpose, stability  and optimism according to their unique needs and values.

I provide a confidential, safe  and supportive space  in which this is able to unfold.

Thank you for considering my service as your counsellor.  See below for more information.
You are warmly invited to call me on 0412 051 387 or email me at denise.howes@bigpond.com.  A GP referral is not required.

Kind wishes
Denise Howes
